Gearbox Artists & Our Community: A Black Lives Matter Donation Challenge

The artists of Gearbox Gallery stand in anguish and outrage at the continued attacks on Black lives in the US and throughout the world. We are aware that the task now, for people of privilege and financial means, is to reach out to our own communities about the actions we can take to dismantle the systems of white supremacy that have been part of our country since its inception. One way to help is to make a financial donation to organizations that lead protests and create policy proposals to work toward an end of systemic racism. We’re reaching out to you, friends, family and art collectors, to make a donation to one of the organizations below. As an incentive, the artists have contributed pieces of artwork that will be gifted to you, with proof of your donation.

Here are the steps for participation:

  1. Select an organization that you’d like to support. A list of suggestions is below.
  2. Make a monetary donation, and save a screenshot or email confirmation of your donation receipt. Donation minimum is $150, even if the artworks are valued higher than $150!
  3. Peruse the artworks below, and select an artwork and email the artist the screenshot proof of your donation.
  4. The artworks will be available to donors on a first come, first served basis, so have a few favorites in mind in case your first choice is already taken.
  5. The artist will mail you the artwork once they receive your donation proof.
  6. Collectors who are white-identifying and/or have privilege: Talk to your family, co-workers and friends about the urgency of this work. Encourage them to make a donation too. People’s lives depend on us speaking up.
