June 2 – June 25, 2016
FIRST FRIDAY RECEPTION: June 3rd from 6-9 pm
Artists Ruth Santee and Cameron Brian explore man’s continual & compromising influence on the natural world in their upcoming exhibit; “Everyone Knows What We Bring: An Invasive Species”. Santee and Brian approach these concepts through drawn imagery and 3D form.
Human beings as a whole have placed the environment in a never-ending cycle of destruction and rehabilitation. Biologists agree that due to human expansion and commerce driven travel, people have facilitated the global expansion of some organisms into foreign environments. The result is often an endangered environment due to the annihilation of native species. Once this is discovered and adopted as an important cause, people begin the decades-long process of rehabilitating what they have helped to destroy.
Could man be the worst invasive species of all?
The exhibit will be at GearBox Gallery, 770 West Grand Ave in Oakland from June 2 to June 25, 2016 with an opening reception during the First Friday Art Walk, June 3rd from 6-9 pm.
Also showing at the GearBox Gallery are works by member artists.
The GearBox is open Thursdays and Fridays from 12 to 6 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 5 pm. GearBox Gallery is also open 6-9 pm the First Friday of every month as part of the Oakland Art Murmur Art Walk.
