The 2016 award winner from the Gearbox Gallery call for entries exhibtion, WILD/MIND, Avery shows new work in this Inner Room installation.
“I am a San Francisco based visual artist working in oils to create large-scale paintings that consider the dynamic nature of truth.
My process begins with images I collect from social media and news publications. These images typically speak to political, environmental, and social issues. I use images as vocabulary, cutting them up and appropriating them into collages to make small works. I use these small works as source material for my large scale paintings.
My recent series, “Off the Rails,” considers how false information has informed our nation’s perception of truth. For this series, I have used environmental, social, and political images in combination with random images found on the internet. I use this unlikely combination of images to narrate what I perceive to be true.”
