GearBox Gallery is proud to announce recent work by Jane Fisher in Jalan Jalan, a term that means “street” in Malaysian and “stroll” in Indonesian. Join us for the artist’s reception during Oakland Art Murmur’s First Friday Art Stroll on September 4th, 2015 from 6-9 pm.

A keen observer of everyday encounters, Jane Fisher captures the quintessential elements in a given moment. Her paintings and sculpture come from a school of realism infused with a lively sense of humor and a fascination with the people and animals that cross her path. Jalan Jalan references recent travels on the streets and beaches of Southeast Asia, a rich source of material for her work but not the only source. Fisher draws on a wide variety of ideas and venues , bringing forth a nuanced and intriguing retinue of characters documented in unguarded moments or posturing in various public roles, all part of the examination of what it is to be here and part of the ever unfolding dramas of life, large and small.

Also at GearBox new paintings by Ruth Santee in the Inner Room, and artists: Kari Brinck, Jules Campbell, David Fitzgerald, Darrell Hunger, Betsy Kluga, Joseph Mele, Phyllis Lasché, TaVee McAllister Lee and Gina Telcocci.
