“On the Edge” might refer to these two artists’ current geographical location – the East San Francisco Bay, situated at the Western edge of the continent. It might refer to their status as cultural workers, usually on the fringes of popular culture, or to a subtle commentary on consumerist society. It surely describes a tendency on the part of each to deftly emphasize visual and physical edges in collage/paintings and installations.

The recent works of Jules Campbell and TaVee McAllister Lee feature ephemera – fragments of paper from newspapers, magazines, and random discarded text and imagery. The fractured pieces are employed in aesthetically formal compositions that imbue them with depth, meaning, and mystery.

“On the Edge” will run from November 30 through January 6, with an opening reception for the artists on First Friday, December 1, from 6 – 9 pm, and a closing reception on Saturday, January 6, from 2 – 4 pm.
