“The most regretful people on earth
are those who felt the call to creative work,
who felt their own creative power restive and uprising,
and gave to it neither power nor time.”

– Mary Oliver

The title of this show, RESTIVE AND UPRISING, refers to the restless urges and creative impulses that, are either expressed artistically or simmer inside and come out in other ways… affecting dreams, emotions, physical well being, and relationships. These artworks, paintings by Phyllis Lasche and mixed media pieces by Deborah Benioff Friedman, are manifestations of those restive stirrings. They resist language. They avoid figurative imagery. Instead, operating in the realm of the abstract, the multilayered and liminal, they represent a conversation of material with craft and imagination.
