First Friday Reception: December 2nd from 6-9 pm
Both artists use a dynamic mix of paint, drawing materials & collage in explorations of the urban environment & the human relationship to it.
Jules Campbell’s recent work references her experiences navigating cities and urban environments. Having lived in both London and San Francisco, and a frequent visitor of New York City, Campbell is obsessed with the geometries and the skyline towering above teaming masses of humanity going about their daily business. Most recently, Campbell has focused on a series of works inspired by the urban environment around her Magnolia Street Studio in Oakland.
For the past decade, Robert-Jean Ray’s goal has been to merge linear depictions of the human with mixed-media collage compositions inspired by urban street graphics. Influenced by early 20th Century modernism, as well as Rauschenberg & Richard Tuttle, Ray’s work most often consists of tiny (2″ X 2″) pieces with large visual impact.
The GearBox is open Thursdays and Fridays from 12 to 6 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 5 pm. GearBox Gallery is also open 6-9 pm the First Friday of every month as part of the Oakland Art Murmur Art Walk.
The exhibit will be at GearBox Gallery, 770 West Grand Ave in Oakland from November 3rd thru 26th, 2016 with an opening reception during the First Friday Art Walk, November 4th from 6-9 pm.
